TIPS for leaders and executives in high-visibility roles

Linda Woody, communications manager at Association Headquarters, PRSA Philadelphia recently interviewed me and asked for two or three guiding principles PR pros should use when helping a client deal with a crisis.

I responded by saying, “Rather than instantly focus on what to say when a crisis strikes, instead identify how you want your client to be perceived by their stakeholders.

Must the client convey empathy, humility, strength? Once you answer that question, then take actions and create messages that bring those attributes to life.

And always remember, when bad news strikes, your client has to be among those most aggrieved, outraged, disturbed, or upset by the problem, especially if your client caused it.”

Linda asked a number of thought provoking questions regarding leaders and executives in high-visibility roles.

The Terminator and Jeff Ansell at a luncheon for California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I had the great pleasure of meeting Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger on his recent visit to Toronto.

In his luncheon address, the Governor, an excellent communicator,  recounted his life story, which was inspiring to all.
